Kasase Power
Scheme
This control scheme consists of an ABB Advant 410 with remote S800
I/O and an ABB Advant 500 operator station. Telemetry is performed by ABB
Advant 55 controllers and UHF radios modems.
The plant consists of three water turbine driven generators with the water supplied from a headpond via a head canal fed from two rivers. A 3500m penstock feeds the water supply to the turbines. At the headpond there is a telemetry unit providing status of water level, valves and a facility for emergency closing of the penstock valve.
The power generated is supplied to a plant via a 6.6kv/33kv transformer and overhead line with an optional connection to the grid at NKENDA.
The main controller provides supervisory control and interfaces to protection relays, synchronising relays, turbine, generator control panels and the two telemetry units at the headpond and NKENDA (main grid point).
